Merick Yamada, M.D., is a Pediatric Cardiologist at Children’s HealthSM, board certified in Pediatrics and Pediatric Cardiology, with specialties including cardiac imaging and fetal echocardiography. She also focuses on preventative cardiology, helping patients manage early warning signs of heart disease, like high blood pressure and high cholesterol, to reduce the risk of developing heart problems later in life.
Dr. Yamada earned her medical degree from Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center School of Medicine. She completed her residency in Pediatrics at the University of Oklahoma, Oklahoma Children’s Hospital and her fellowship in Pediatric Cardiology at Duke University Medical Center.
Dr. Yamada is dedicated to quality improvement in pediatric cardiology and has been involved in many projects that aim to make care as effective and easy on patients as possible. She is also an educator who has given lectures on many topics, including diagnosing hypoplastic left heart syndrome and educating first responders on best practices in caring for people with congenital heart disease. She is a member of the Society of Pediatric Echocardiography and the American Society of Echocardiography.
“I am passionate about Pediatric Cardiology because it encompasses a mix of complex congenital heart disease and education on general healthy lifestyle skills,” she says. “I love to work with children and build long-term relationships with families. I genuinely care about their health and well-being and want them to feel comfortable during our visits and well-educated about their diagnosis.”
Outside of work, Dr. Yamada enjoys traveling and living an active lifestyle.
